Addressing topics selected by the Foreign Policy Association, the Great Decisions Lecture Series is America's largest discussion program on foreign affairs. The series of six Great Decisions Lectures at the Mauthe Center continues a longstanding collaboration between the University of Wisconsin Green Bay and St. Norbert College, with faculty from both institutions contributing to the selection of speakers and the discussions themselves. This week's topic is "America and the World: U.S. Foreign Policy." The description from the Foreign Policy Association states, "Trump’s return has marked a break from 80 years of U.S. foreign policy leadership, embracing an 'America First' approach. This discussion explores the risks of isolation and diminished influence in relation to U.S. foreign policy."
Our speaker will be Dr. Jennifer Collins, Professor and Chair of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. After graduating from college, she spent eight years working in Central and South America, first in Nicaragua with Witness for Peace, and then in Ecuador with the Latin American Council of Churches (CLAI). She was the recipient of two Fulbright fellowships for field research in Ecuador and Bolivia and serves as a contributing editor to the Handbook of Latin American Studies. Her expertise in teaching from a global lens, along with her scholarship and mentorship of students in research and clubs have earned her the 2024 Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship, and Service Award. Dr. Collins is the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies.
