Grateful & Gay: A Sapphic Chosen Family Affair
About this Event
Grateful & Gay: A Sapphic Chosen Family Affair
Good Food. Good Company. Chosen Family.
Whether you're looking forward to a wonderful Thanksgiving with family you love or could use a little extra connection and community before the holiday, this gathering is for you.
Bring your chosen family, or come meet some new members of it!
This year, we're celebrating a little differently. No potluck, no cooking, no dishes! We're gathering at Salazar for an afternoon and evening of good food, drinks, conversation, laughter, creativity, and dancing.
It's a chance to slow down, appreciate the people in our lives, make room for new connections, and celebrate the community we're building together.
Here's the vibe:
3–6:30 PM | Eat, Sip & Connect
We'll keep the music low enough for real conversation. Grab some tacos, enjoy happy hour food and drink specials from 4–6 PM, catch up with familiar faces, and meet some new ones.
We'll also have a little fun and creativity sprinkled in, with optional games and activities for anyone who wants to participate. Whether you're feeling social, playful, creative, or just want to relax with a drink, there's room for you.
6:30–9 PM | Dance & Celebrate
We'll turn up the music and make room for dancing, celebrating, and letting loose with our community. DJ VVS will be behind our sound for the evening.
Meet Your Host: Farrell!
If you've been to Mixtape before, you may already know Farrell! She's been part of our community for a long time, and we're excited to have her stepping into a hosting role.
Farrell moved to the DMV about two years ago and found a community of sapphics she loves right here at Mixtape. She's a lifelong sci-fi and horror geek, a foodie (but definitely not a cook!), and loves spending her weekends exploring the city, wandering through museums, or hiking nature trails.
She's warm, welcoming, and genuinely excited to meet new people. As a longtime Mixtape attendee, she knows what makes our gatherings special: the conversations, the friendships, and the feeling of walking into a room where you belong.
Farrell will be helping make introductions, spark conversations, and bring people together, continuing the intentional connection that's always been at the heart of Mixtape.
So whether you're coming solo, bringing your besties, or hoping to expand your chosen family, you're in good hands!
Come for the tacos, stay for the people, and leave with a little more community than you came with.
