Grass Valley City Council Meeting

Please plan on attending the next city council meeting where we continue to express our desire to have the City of Grass Valley and Grass Valley Police Dept. cancel all contracts with Flock Safety and remove all Flock cameras from our beautiful community. If you plan on attending and making a public comment, please be there at 5:45 pm to sign up.
As has been seen nationally, there is a real documented concern over the collection of our data through mass surveillance and how that data is being used, and by whom. This is a violation of the 4th amendment which was written to protect against broad government surveillance and to preserve the principle that citizens should not be subject to monitoring without individualized suspicion. While technology has advanced dramatically, the underlying constitutional values remain unchanged.
Mass surveillance is impacting 1st amendment rights as a free society depends upon the ability of individuals to participate in lawful activities without feeling that their movements are being cataloged and retained by the government. Whether attending political meetings, religious services, community events, or simply going about daily life, residents should not have to wonder whether a permanent record of their movements is being created.
This also raises concerns with the 14th amendment. Equal protection and due process require that government systems operate fairly, transparently, and with meaningful accountability. When surveillance networks collect information on everyone regardless of suspicion, ordinary residents become subject to monitoring without notice, meaningful consent, or practical avenues to challenge how their data is collected, shared, retained, or used.
We the people did not authorize this, but we have the power to remove it. Community action is needed now.
