Grants 101 – Fundamentals for Success
About this Event
Led by Amanda Aliperta, the Founder and Principal of Momentum Nonprofit Strategies, this introductory session is designed to demystify the grant landscape for entrepreneurs and artists who are new to or early in the grant-seeking process. Participants will gain a clear understanding of what grants are, the types of funding available, and how grants can fit into a broader revenue strategy.
We will walk through the full grant lifecycle, including identifying funding opportunities, assessing readiness, planning a strong proposal, and understanding what happens after submission. Participants will also explore common misconceptions about grant funding, realistic expectations for success, and the key factors that influence funding decisions, both within and beyond their control.
Special emphasis will be placed on practical strategies, including how to identify aligned funders, craft clear and compelling narratives, and avoid common pitfalls. The session will also introduce tools and resources that can support grant research and writing, including the responsible use of AI.
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Understand the core components of a grant proposal
- Be able to identify grant opportunities that align with their work
- Have a realistic understanding of grant competitiveness and timelines
- Recognize the critical role of relationships in securing funding
This session is best suited for those who are exploring grants for the first time or looking to strengthen their foundational knowledge before actively applying.
