Join us for the second show at Guild Row on Wednesday, December 6th at 7:30 (doors at 7:00) for another round of Grandma’s House- Chicago's coziest poetry show! Come to share your poetry, watch our featured poet, and build community. Whether you are an experienced poet, first time reader, or just want to listen, you are welcome at Grandma’s House!

To sign up for an open mic slot, follow this Sign Up Genius link when you reserve your seat. Please reserve your seat before you sign up to insure that you’re able to attend. Each poet will be limited to 3 minutes on the mic. Please stick to one poem!

This month's feature is Hilesh Patel!

Hilesh Patel is a poet, consultant, educator, artist and member of the art group The Chicago ACT Collective (@thechicagoactcollective). He was born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and has called Chicago home for most of his life. His work has been published in Passengers Journal, Relief Journal, Jaggery, AIOTB Magazine and others. You can find him most days teaching, reading, grinding cardamom, and on Instagram and Twitter at @hilesh.

COVID restrictions might be lifted across Chicago, but not at Grandma's House! Please adhere to the following rules to keep our community safe.

Reserve your seat. Walk-ins will not be permitted so that we do not exceed capacity.

Wear Your Mask. Masks must be worn properly, even though you are required to be vaccinated. Masks may only be removed while you're performing or actively drinking. Please wear a KN95 or N95 mask. Masks will be provided at the door should you need one.

Test yourself. I HIGHLY recommend that you administer a rapid test before attending the show as well!

Report. If you test positive after the show, please message or email so that I can notify the attendees.

Accessibility

The show will be held outside (weather permitting) at 3130 N Rockwell St. The entrance is accessible from the sidewalk. If the event is inside, you'll enter through the courtyard and turn right down the ramp to check in. There are two accessible, single stall restrooms inside by the entrance. There is riser seating with floor cushions available via stairs and chair seating on the main floor as well.

Grandma's House is having a special show on Thursday, December 14th in collaboration with Filament Theatre! Join us at Filament at 7:00 for a special FORTS: Adult Night followed by a poetry show amongst the boxes. This show will feature Raych Jackson, Bianca Phipps, Samie Jo Johnson, and more!

FORTS: Adult Night is a version of Filament’s family friendly experience that is specifically for adults to reconnect with the imagination of their youth.

Enter a world of play and creation as Filament Theatre transforms into a fort building fantasy. With towers of cardboard boxes, baskets of sheets, and theatrical design elements of sound and lights working together to inspire creativity, friends old and new are swept away in the adventure!
