The Grand Finals Qualifier (GFQ) is a postseason event in the Ultimate Pool USA league that determines which teams advance to the annual Grand Finals that are held in November.
Qualification
Team Qualification: Full Session & Full Express Session: 1st and 2nd place teams from each division qualify for the GFQ.
Half Session: Only the 1st place team from each division qualifies.
Wildcard: League Operators may select one Wildcard team per division, per session.
Qualification does not pass down if a team declines or is unable to participate.
Player & Team Eligibility:
Players must have played at least 4 matches in an active session and 10 matches in the season.
Teams must retain at least 5 players from the original qualifying roster.
The Session 3 roster is used for eligibility. Teams must finish in the top 50% of their division in each remaining session.
GFQ Tournament Format
Double Elimination: Fewer than 8 teams: True double elimination throughout.
9 or more teams: Double elimination down to the final 4, 8, or 16 (depending on entries), then single elimination for remaining rounds.
Grand Finals Spots & Prizes
Each league area gets one Grand Finals spot for every 35 teams per format.
Winning teams receive a prize package valued at a minimum of $6,000 (travel funds, team jerseys, Grand Finals entry).
Top 25% of teams by GFQ placement may enter Grand Finals by paying an entry fee ($2,750).
Tiebreakers
If more than four Grand Finals slots are available and teams are tied in a losing round: The team with the highest total points in that round gets the slot. If still tied, a Six Ball Shootout determines the winner.
Additional Rules
Double Play is not allowed during GFQ or Grand Finals.
All participating teams and players are subject to a UPScore audit.
The GFQ ensures that only the top-performing and eligible teams from each division have a chance to compete for the league's highest honors at the Grand Finals.
