Graham Fellows’ celebrates 40 years of his comically awkward & beloved character, John Shuttleworth. In conversation with Daryl Easlea
About this Event

Join actor and musician Graham Fellows, creator of the much-loved fictional singer-songwriter John Shuttleworth, for an in-conversation event with behind-the-scenes insights into some 40 years in comedy.

Graham will reflect on a crumbly selection of witty tales, dry humour, and reflections from his new book John Shuttleworth Takes The Biscuit!, exploring the wonderfully mundane world of Shuttleworth and his life in and around Sheffield.

He’ll also delve into his own varied career from his punk-pop beginnings as Jilted John, to memorable appearances on British television.

We have two ticket options available: * Event Only and *Event with Discounted Book Combo deal - books will be available for collection at the Festival.

Our event will be followed by a dedicated signing event with Graham. RRP books will also be available for purchase on the day.

About the Author:;

GRAHAM FELLOWS is a comedian, actor, and singer-songwriter best known for creating the character John Shuttleworth, a fictional middle-aged singer-songwriter and organ enthusiast from Sheffield. Fellows first gained public attention in 1978 with his novelty punk single “Jilted John,” which became a UK Top 5 hit. In the 1980s, he worked in various roles in television and theatre before achieving enduring success with John Shuttleworth in the early 1990s.

Through Shuttleworth, Fellows has performed on radio, television, and live tours, creating a beloved cult figure known for his quirky humor and catchy, offbeat songs.

About the Host:

Louder stalwart Daryl Easlea’s books explore some of his great musical loves; pop eccentrics, glam, populist African American music and prog rock. His first, Everybody Dance: Chic & The Politics Of Disco was published by Helter Skelter in 2004 (and updated in 2020). His second was an extended essay to accompany the Supremes exhibition at the V&A. Talent Is an Asset: the Story of Sparks followed in April 2010, while Without Frontiers: The Life And Music Of Peter Gabriel was published in October 2013, with an updated edition following in March 2018. Whatever Happened To Slade?? – a Sunday Times Book Of The Year – was published in October 2023. His work can be found in Record Collector, Prog, Mojo, and in other places, too. He can regularly be seen talking on Channel 5 about pop.

He also compiles and annotates LPs and CDs, DJs, broadcasts, consults with record companies and was born to dance. He curated Decca's 90th Anniversary celebrations and edited the book Decca: The Supreme Record Company with Darren Henley. His talks on popular music, Fast Forward, have been performed at festivals, the British Library and the V&A. In 2022, he returned to Record Collector as editor of The Rare Record Price Guide and has edited Genesis, The Fall, Paul McCartney and John and Yoko stand-alone magazines. His first Rare Record Price Guide was published in 2024. He is currently working with Slade’s enigmatic Jim Lea writing his autobiography, due for publication 2025.
