ARTHAUS At The Mezz | Allentown, PA
Brian Gormley, an Irish American artist who recently moved to Ireland to live and work, was born in New York City. From a recent article in Arts Management Magazine, "Gormley knew Jean-Michel Basquiat well and was influenced by him to create graffiti art. After working in the streets of New York, Gormley began creating graffiti-influenced studio work that reflected additional influences of abstract expressionism. Critic Brian Fallon describes Gormley as an heir to abstract expressionism seeing an influence of Jackson Pollock in his more modestly scaled work."
Joey Tepedino, a self-taught artist from Pennsylvania, is represented by the Hal Bromm Gallery in New York. His art is described as "a reflection of the anxieties and fears that captivate his inner psyche."
Together the work is a reflection of the course of graffiti (both street and studio) from the 1970's to the present.
Lee Klein has been a participant, observer and chronicler of the art scene in New York since the 1970's. A curator, essayist, editor, actor and writer, Lee will lead a lively discussion of the graffiti art scene in New York from Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Gormley to Tepedino.
The show is curated by Deborah Rabinsky. ARTHAUS at Mezz is open all the time. All sales are through RE:find. Call 610-841-4866 for information.
