In April 2025, a group of researchers published a shocking prediction of AI development. By 2027, AI companies could automate R&D leading to vastly superhuman AIs. Artificial superintelligences might develop unintended, adversarial “misaligned” goals, leading to human disempowerment. An international race toward superintelligence will lead to cutting corners on safety.⏰It’s been a year since the prediction was published! Let’s meet and discuss how fast AI progress is moving in reality. The AI 2027 scenario is filled with concrete, falsifiable predictions (coding time horizons, R&D uplift, economic value, compute, public salience) so we can compare those benchmarks to what actually happened in the past year.
💻This meet up will focus more on specific benchmarks rather than a general discussion about AI. Bringing a laptop so you can actively look metrics up during the event might be helpful, but is not required.
