🟢 Tadeusz Kantor w trzech aktach nad Sekwaną
Tadeusz Kantor powracał do Francji wielokrotnie.
Będziemy mogli zobaczyć „Sketches of Crowd #8”– kameralną, dopasowaną do przestrzeni Cricoteki wersję słynnego spektaklu „Crowd”.
🟢 W listopadzie w ramach „Gry z Kantorem” wspólnie z Narodowym Starym Teatrem w Krakowie otworzymy w Cricotece wystawę poświęconą twórczości Philippe’a Quesne’a – francuskiego reżysera i scenografa. Na wystawie zaprezentujemy obiekty i instalacje wizualno-dźwiękowe Philippe’a Quesne’a, m.in. pianina z wystawy „Fantasmagoria” (2022), kostiumy kretów ze spektaklu „La Nuit des taupes. Welcome to Caveland” (2016) czy roboty z „Le Paradoxe de John” (2025). Wszystkie elementy zostaną zaaranżowane specjalnie dla Cricoteki, tworząc nową całość, z odniesieniami do oryginalnych kontekstów. Wystawa zostanie otwarta 18 listopada i potrwa do marca 2027 roku. Wtedy też w Starym Teatrze w Krakowie została zaplanowana premiera spektaklu w reżyserii Philippe’a Quesne’a.
To fascynująca opowieść, lekcja tańca i taniec w jednym.
Tegoroczna edycja organizowana wspólnie z Narodowym Starym Teatrem im. Heleny Modrzejewskiej w Krakowie poświęcona zostanie Francji.

🟢 Gisèle Vienne
Francusko-austriacka choreografka, reżyserka, lalkarka i artystka sztuk wizualnych.
🟢 Anne-Marie Van – Nach
Francuska tancerka i choreografka pochodzenia senegalskiego, wietnamskiego i zielonoprzylądkowego.
🟢 Philippe Quesne
Reżyser i scenograf. W 2003 roku założył zespół Vivarium Studio, z którym do dzisiaj tworzy spektakle w przestrzeniach o charakterze „wiwarium”, służących obserwacji ludzkich i nieludzkich mikrokosmosów.

🟢 Tadeusz Kantor in three acts on the Seine
Once again we return to "Playing with Kantor", this time to look at three important figures of contemporary French art. The program of this year's edition focuses on the work of Gisèle Vienne, Philippe Quesne and Nach – it is through their prism that we will look at how the art of Tadeusz Kantor lives in the work of contemporary artists in France. In the edition curated by Dorota Semenowicz, we want to ask not about the past, but about the present. Has France locked the Polish artist in a museum display case, or does he still remain a living inspiration? We will be reflecting on this in September and November of this year.
Tadeusz Kantor returned to France many times. In the 1970s, he appeared there with the performance "The Dead Class" and caused a real artistic sensation. He made his mark not only on the stage, but to some extent also influenced French academic and artistic thought. After so many years, does his presence still resonate in the work of contemporary artists? One of the effects of Kantor's presence in France was the opening of the French stage to performances combining various artistic forms. This process was slow and did not begin nor was it limited to the presentations of Kantor's own performances alone. However, the most internationally recognizable French artists today blur the boundaries between disciplines, challenge the role of text and the place of the word in performance, while admitting to a direct fascination with Kantor's art.
🟢 In the September part of the program there are performances by Gisèle Vienne and a conversation with the artist. We will be able to see "Sketches of Crowd #8" – an intimate version of the famous performance "Crowd", adapted to the space of Cricoteka. A three-person etude exploring the mechanisms of the crowd, loneliness and rave presence, created as a reflection on isolation during the pandemic. Performances will take place on 18 and 19 September at 6:30 PM. The meeting with the artist will take place on 18 September after the performance.
🟢 In November, as part of "Playing with Kantor", together with the National Stary Theatre in Krakow, we will open an exhibition at Cricoteka dedicated to the work of Philippe Quesne – French director and set designer. The exhibition will present objects and audio-visual installations by Philippe Quesne, including pianos from the exhibition "Fantasmagoria" (2022), mole costumes from the performance "La Nuit des taupes. Welcome to Caveland" (2016) and robots from "Le Paradoxe de John" (2025). All elements will be specially arranged for Cricoteka, creating a new whole, with references to the original contexts. The exhibition will open on 18 November and will run until March 2027. At that time, the premiere of the performance directed by Philippe Quesne is planned at the Stary Theatre in Krakow.
🟢 Also in November, Nach – Afro-French dancer and choreographer – as part of a residency in the Cricoteka archive, will conduct research and share materials collected for a performance directly inspired by Tadeusz Kantor's "The Dead Class", whose premiere is scheduled for 2027 in Paris at MC93. The presentation of the collected visual and movement materials on 24 November will take the form of a performative lecture. As part of the meeting with the artist, there will be a discussion about "black dolls" from the Déborah Neff collection and how Kantor's rituals help describe the postcolonial experience.
At the Stary Theatre, the artist will also present her solo performance "Nulle part est un ailleurs" from 2020 – an autobiographical dance lecture in which she tells the story of her encounter with krump, as well as the gradual discovery of other dance traditions in which, as it turned out, the spirit of krump is also present. It is a fascinating story, a dance lesson and dance in one.
More details will be revealed soon. And now we invite you to "Playing with Kantor"!
🟢 "Playing with Kantor" is an artistic and research project carried out since 2018 – since 2023 as a festival. We analyze the reception of Tadeusz Kantor's work and present it as a living source of inspiration for successive generations of experimental artists from around the world. "Playing with Kantor" shows the real impact of Cricot 2 on today's theatre and visual arts. This year's edition, organized jointly with the Helena Modrzejewska National Stary Theatre in Krakow, will be dedicated to France.
🟢 Gisèle Vienne
French-Austrian choreographer, director, puppeteer and visual artist. Her work includes both performances, often on the border between theatre and dance, as well as artistic installations, films and photographs. She is currently one of the most recognized and valued French directors and one of the most unconventional in Europe. Her works are presented at festivals, in theatres and galleries around the world. Her works are presented at festivals, in theatres and galleries around the world, including at the exhibition "Kantor. Therapy of Visions" at Cricoteka.
🟢 Anne-Marie Van – Nach
French dancer and choreographer of Senegalese, Vietnamese and Cape Verdean origin. For many years she danced in performances by other artists. Since 2017 she has also been creating her own performances (solo and multi-person), conducting an interdisciplinary dialogue with researchers and artists from the world of music, visual arts and puppetry in France and around the world. In her work she combines word, bodily expression and video, focusing on themes of artistic identity and freedom, as well as the alienation of the Black body in an individual/intimate and collective/political context.
🟢 Philippe Quesne
Director and set designer. In 2003 he founded the Vivarium Studio company, with which he still creates performances in spaces with the character of a "vivarium", serving to observe human and non-human microcosms. His theatre very often touches on themes related to the need to create, art, ecology and nature conservation, and he himself calls his activities landscape theatre. The scenographies for his performances resemble images constructed on stage, constituting not a background for the action, but a complex environment. Quesne is today one of the most recognized French artists, and his performances, often grotesque and full of tenderness, are presented all over the world.
