Leading UK expert Marc Laniado tackles prostate cancer screening controversy, PSA testing dilemmas and real-world GP decisions
About this Event

We are delighted to invite you to our second GP update of 2026 - an engaging session designed to keep General Practitioners at the forefront of modern clinical practice. Open to clinicians from all medical specialties.

We are thrilled to welcome Mr Marc Laniado - one of the UK’s leading experts in prostate cancer care - who will be speaking at this event. He will address prostate cancer, now one of the most frequently encountered and discussed cancers in UK primary care, with particular focus on the ongoing controversy surrounding screening in the UK. The session will provide a clear, practical and up-to-date overview of current policy, including why population PSA screening is still not routinely recommended, the evolving role of targeted BRCA2-based screening, and how best to manage asymptomatic patients requesting PSA testing.

The talk will explore common, real-world clinical scenarios faced by GPs, including raised or borderline PSA levels, urinary symptoms, family history, Black ethnicity and genetic risk factors, as well as the role of MRI prior to biopsy, PSA density and newer diagnostic tests. It will also help clinicians navigate increasingly informed patient queries around focal therapy, robotic prostatectomy, advanced radiotherapy and lifestyle factors. Throughout, brief case-based examples will demonstrate how these issues present in day-to-day consultations and support GPs in delivering balanced, evidence-based advice with confidence.
