Research-based principles beneficial to all couples. A program of The Gottman Institute (TGI), led by Dr. Doug and Claudia Burford.
About this Event

Also being held the weekend of January 24 & 25, The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work is a program of The Gottman Institute (TGI) designed to educate couples on the research-based discoveries of John Gottman, PhD pertaining to marital satisfaction. The program imparts in practical ways Dr. Gottman's four decades of research on the habits of couples in solid relationships.

His scientific, longitudinal studies of thoustands of couples, conducted at the University of Washington, are without peer in their measurement of everything from verbal exchanges to vital signs, to stress hormones, to conflict-recovery techniques. Dr. Gottman's research has made him the author on marriage most often quoted by other authors on marriage.

So, if you’ve ever wondered why some couples thrive relationally while others dive, this seminar will provide answers. In a few hours, you will learn the six toxic patterns of "disaster couples" whose relationships end, and the seven patterns observed in "master couples" whose relationships last and thrive. As a couple, you will also engage in private couple exercises to help you apply these insights to your relationship.

This is a live workshop (6-9PM Friday, 9AM-4PM Saturday), limited to twelve (12) couples.

Registration costs less than my four-hour intake session for couples, but provides a wealth of foundational concepts upon which to build, should you seek couples therapy. Each registering couple also recieves a copy of Dr. Gottman's book of the same title: The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work.

Nine (9) CEUs are available to professionals for $25 by purchasing the ticket add-on.(Those seeking CEUs will be asked to sign-in on Friday evening, Saturday morning, and Saturday afternoon. Professionals attending without a partner are welcome to register solo or to split the cost with another professional by registering together on the same ticket. Each can purchase an add-on ticket for CEU documentation.)

What past attendees have said:

  • "My eyes have been opened more fully to the perpetual vs. solvable problems in any relationship."

  • “It’s valuable to be reminded that marriage is a commitment that takes effort. Everyone deals with challenges and being reminded of that and working through strategies to improve is very valuable.”
  • “Remembering it’s not about me…..but WE!”
