About this Event
Uncover the hidden history of NYC’s four-legged residents on this self-guided Midtown tour. Using a digital field guide, you will trace the history of the secret train track at Grand Central, meet the first K9 units of 1911, and explore the many animals, including dogs, that form the pride of animals etched into the exterior of the iconic New York Public Library. You'll learn the stories of dogs that were the bffs (best furry friends) of famous authors memorialized on Library Way’s sidewalk tributes and historic firehouse lore before finishing at the AKC Museum of the Dog. This walk explores how dogs have played an essential role in the city’s development and culture.
Wear comfortable shoes and bring a smartphone; this 1-mile route takes approx. 60 mins. Perfect for history buffs and dog lovers alike who want to discover the true stories behind some of the city’s canine landmarks and tributes. Appropriate for all ages.
On May 1st, you will receive an email with your map and historical guide. The guide will also include links to nycsecretsandlies.com where additional information about each stop will be available.
