About this Event
The Volusia County Explore Volusia program invites you to join Education Specialist Tommy Nordmann on a 1.5-mile hike through the pine flatwoods and oak hammock habitats of Deep Creek Preserve. Along the way we’ll discuss the unique role of the gopher tortoise as a keystone species in Florida ecology, and we’ll try to catch a glimpse of one of these reptiles emerging from their burrows.
** Important note: Please arrive 15 minutes prior to complete a waiver. Waivers must be completed in full to participate in the program.
ACTIVITY: This will be a moderate 1.5-mile hike.
RESERVATIONS: Required. Unless you have a confirmation email, you are not registered.
TICKETS: No printed ticket is necessary.
AGES: All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
ATTIRE: closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothing for the outdoors
WHAT TO BRING: water, bug spray, sunscreen
FACILITIES: There will be a port-a-potty but no running water.
