Following the city's Regional Homeless Forum at the Orpheum Theatre - where government officials spoke from stage while community members could only listen - there's clearly a need for genuine dialogue and community-led solutions around houselessness in Sioux Falls. That's why Good NAtured is launching a monthly Houseless Open Forum on the last Wednesday of every month.
Unlike the theatrical presentation at the Orpheum, this forum will create space for real conversations between service providers, community members, and most importantly - people with lived experience of houselessness. No stages, no prepared speeches, no political theater - just honest dialogue aimed at collective action.
The timing is critical. At the city's forum, Mayor TenHaken described homelessness as a "wicked problem" without solutions. But communities across the country have made real progress through collaborative, ground-up approaches that center the voices of those most impacted. That's what this monthly forum aims to foster.
Good NAtured (921 E 8th St) will open its doors at 5:30pm, with discussion starting at 6:00pm. The space is intentionally accessible and welcoming, designed to break down the hierarchies that often prevent authentic community problem-solving.
