Chefs Brett and Kevin, Manager Aimee, and thier team hosted the first ever pop-up Guest Chef dinner at Farming Hope two years ago. It was a different time; masking was the norm and people were still shy about dining in close quarters. Farming Hope was also very different. Today, we are celebrating one year in our new home and employ 15 Apprentices at time who cook over 10,000 meals a month for food insecure San Franciscans. Two years ago, we had just a handful of Apprentices, including Adrain and Larry, and their expierence cooking with GGCC gave them a new perspective. Upon seeing the photos of himself from the event, Larry said "Farming hope changed my life, and now to look at these pictures, where I'm working and doing something I love...I've never seen myself that way, and I've never had someone see me that way, it feels really good."
Since then, GGCC and LLYC have stayed close to Farming Hope, hiring graduate Alvaro who is now integral in the kitchens of both restuarants. Their commitment to equitable hiring practices, sustainable wages, community building, and inclusion are helping transform kitchen culture. We are so excited to welcome the team back to Farming Hope for what will no doubt be an inspiring and delicious evening!
