GonzoFest is a celebration of Hunter S. Thompson writing and life. Last year's GonzoFest happened in New Orleans (see https://gonzofest.net/). Next Year's GonzoFest will happen (July 16-19) in NYC at Howl! Happening (6 East 1st Street); Georges Berges Gallery (462 W Broadway), Hart Bar (538 Hart Street, Brooklyn), Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette Street) among others. The focus will be Hunter's political writing (below is a list of panels). The event will include talks, poets, music, art, and film, and in part will be a fundraiser for Columbia's Hunter S. Thompson Scholarship for Veterans.
Academic panels will include Hunter's Political Writing; Gonzo Spirituality; Hunter's New York (Hunter took classes at Columbia, wrote his Kentucky Derby piece at the Royalton Hotel, worked at Time magazine, wrote his first unpublished novel in the East Village) and/or Hunter S. Thompson as Sportswriter; Hunter’s Legal Legacy; Gonzo Women (a women's panel on Hunter); Hunter as His Friends Knew Him; and Hunter and the Beat Generation.
