The program opens with "Bacchanale" from the opera Samson and Delilah, an energetic and percussive dance depicting a wild and raucous victory party.
"Potentia", commissioned by Orchestra Santa Monica, is a collaboration between Anne Carmack, poet laureate of Santa Monica and California based composer Jason Anthony Gomez. This innovative work includes song and narration, performed by award-winning baritone Jubilant Sykes.
The program concludes with the fascinating and evocative "Enigma Variations". Each of the 14 variations represents the character of a friend or acquaintance, with Elgar’s music based upon an overarching mystery theme.
