There is a man — we will call him James — who has slept under the same Houston overpass for the better part of six years.
James was three years old the first time someone hurt him in a way no child should ever be hurt. He was eight when the chaos became so normal he stopped flinching. He was nineteen when the streets became safer than every room he had ever called home.
For 908 consecutive Saturdays, Hope Beyond Bridges has been showing up for people like James. Not with clipboards and requirements. With food. With prayer. With a face he could begin to recognize. And slowly — after months of building something as fragile and powerful as trust — with the possibility of something more.
That "something more" costs money.
