About this Event

From Wednesday 29th March to Thursday 25th May 2023, our schools exhibition tours and workshops will focus on introducing children and young adults to the work of Finnish artist, Pilvi Takala. Pilvi Takala's work uses performative intervention to reveal the unspoken soft boundaries and codes that govern our daily interactions. Her work draws upon dramatic techniques such as Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed, and often takes the form of installation, video, and performance.

The workshops will begin with a scenario based icebreaker, which will then move into an investigative exhibition tour around Takala's solo exhibition On Discomfort. Visitors will explore ideas around personal and public space, social conventions and boundaries, as well as emotions such as embarrassment, apprehension and anxiety. This will be followed by an immersive workshop, where students will have the chance to create their own 'boundary breaking ID badges'. The workshops will be led by the CCA's Education Team.

Workshops are available from 9:45–11.15am (90 minutes) every Wednesday and Thursday (or other times by special request). Workshops are free and are allocated on a first come first served basis. We can host groups of up to 30 pupils at any one time.

The Galleries are wheelchair accessible. If you would like to request assistance, or discuss access, please get in touch.
