WHAT/WHO IS GOLDEN HOUR?

We've brought the first of its kind to Grand Rapids: a full volumetric virtual production studio.

In our continuation of investing in industry leading tools and technology that will further the creative capabilities of West Michigan, we’ve installed a state of the art tool for all to use. Introducing: GOLDEN HOUR, our virtual LED wall delivered directly from the set of The Batman (2022). It’s a ridiculous 1.5 pixel pitch beauty that measures 40’ long and stands 16’ tall, wrapping around its subject with a 7º curve. With an LED ceiling and an additional 10’ modular wall on wheels, we can now film in an immersive environment anywhere in the world. Golden hour 24/7/365. The immersive opportunities are endless.

The days are getting shorter in Michigan, but GOLDEN HOUR is here to stay. The seasonal limitations of filming in our beautiful state have been lifted. There are no longer boundaries to the time of day, what can be created, or where you can film. Equipped with a full Mo-Sys StarTracker system, we built this wall to do anything, for anyone. From a head to toe green screen, to a full white sweep, to static backgrounds, to a fully virtual Unreal Engine environment with integrated practical physical elements.

We are so excited to be able to bring GOLDEN HOUR to life, for everyone to come use this wall and step into the virtual production world. This is the future of our industry, right here in Grand Rapids.

OPEN HOUSE DETAILS:

We're hosting an open house on January 25, 2023 at GOLDEN HOUR (located in Lowing Studios) for creatives to come to and see the wall in person. We'll be offering sessions throughout the day to dive in and answer questions about all things virtual production.

This is a new tool for our community, but this is the future of filmmaking. So come learn, come play, come create.
