Master the timeless art of goldwork embroidery in this inspiring one-day workshop. Guided by experienced tutor Kathleen Laurel Sage, you'll discover the traditional techniques used to create luxurious metal thread embroidery while stitching an elegant and majestic stag design.
Throughout the day, you'll learn how to transform flat materials into a richly textured, sculptural work of art, combining shimmering metallic threads, intricate details, and dimensional elements. By the end of the workshop, you'll be able to create a stunning goldwork embroidery piece ready to frame and proudly display.
Working step-by-step through the stag design, you will explore a range of traditional and contemporary goldwork techniques, including:
Transferring the design accurately onto your fabric
Building dimension through felt and leather padding
Couching traditional and modern metallic cords
Cutting, shaping, and applying purl and check wires
Adding decorative details with beads and sequins
Creating texture, depth, and light-catching effects that bring your embroidery to life
Suitable for adventurous beginners and experienced stitchers alike, this immersive workshop offers a wonderful opportunity to develop specialist embroidery skills, enjoy a day of creative focus, and leave with the start of a beautifully crafted goldwork masterpiece.
You will need gold work threads, fabric and basic needlework tools. Detailed requirements will be emailed to you in advance of your class. Use your stash or shop for everything you need in store or online at Tudor Rose Patchwork.
