About this Event

As part of our public programme surrounding our current exhibition, Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley & Josèfa Ntjam, we're hosting a screening of two film works by multidisciplinary artist Gold Maria Akanbi.

In Order To Find Myself, I Had To Lose Myself (2021) and “A Prayer… An Interlude… A Meaningful Platitude” (2021), are films created with an understanding that a global awakening is taking place in the physical and metaphysical. Drawing inspiration from Black pedagogical practices, Indigenous spirituality and the healing powers of nature, Gold expresses the freedoms that their ancestors have fought for, and still for today. The films are a powerful reminder of how things were, but also how they could be.

After the screening, Gold will be joined by Maitreyi Maheshwari (Head of Programme, FACT) for an in-conversation and audience Q&A. This will be an opportunity for attendees to hear from Gold and learn more about her artistic process and the inspiration behind her work.
