Sinds 1999 zorgt Gogol Bordello, onder leiding van de Oekraïense frontman Eugene Hütz, voor een energie die een hele stad zou kunnen aandrijven. Hun nieuwste album 'Solidaritine' grijpt terug naar hun hardcore roots. Hütz, een liefhebber van de punkcultuur, groeide op in Oekraïne, maar vond in de late jaren ‘90 zijn thuis in de bruisende Lower East Side van New York. Daar bezocht hij legendarische shows en speelde zelf op het iconische podium van CBGB. Het begon met kleine akoestische optredens in Oekraïense bars in New York, en groeide al snel uit tot een multiculturele band die Oosterse, Westerse en Latijnse invloeden combineert.
Bob Vylan, het eerder aangekondigde voorprogramma van Gogol Bordello in 013 is geannuleerd. Meer info over de vervangende support-act volgt. Lees hieronder het statement van Gogol Bordello:
“Following Bob Vylan’s controversial Glastonbury performance, their shows with Gogol Bordello were cancelled by the promoter and venues in Germany. The decision to remove them from the bill was not our decision and beyond our control. In the aftermath, we needed to evaluate the situation, and we decided to remove Bob Vylan from the tour until we could fully comprehend the situation. After Bob Vylan posted a more in-depth explanation, a conversation was re-opened to explore their ability to be on other tour dates. Unfortunately, it is logistically impossible for Bob Vylan to participate on the tour given the circumstances. We worked diligently together with our friends Bob Vylan to find a solution but in the end it didn’t work out. Gogol Bordello is comprised of members from various nationalities and celebrates international understanding consequentially, we value freedom of speech from all perspectives.”
