Exploring Religious Identity and Political PowerCalifornia Freethought Day is thrilled to host a screening of this important documentary, in the comfort and community of the Reason Center with a giant screen and incredible sound. And joining us in person is Dan Partland, the film's Emmy-winning director.
🎞️ About the Film
God & Country is a 2024 documentary examining the rise of Christian nationalism in the United States and its effect on both democracy and Christianity. Featuring prominent faith leaders and experts, it explores how religious identity is intertwined with political power, raising questions about the separation of church and state.
The film includes historian Kristin Kobes Du Mez, sociologist Samuel Perry, writer Katherine Stewart, pastor Jim Wallis, and other evangelical insiders and experts. It was produced by the late Rob Reiner.
The film is largely based on The Power Worshippers written by Katherine Stewart.

⭐ Special Guest Dan Partland
Emmy Award–winning director Dan Partland will be joining us in person for the screening and a Q&A to follow.
Dan has built his career on examining the intersections of power, belief, and civic life in the United States. He earned Emmy recognition as the director of the 13-part documentary series American High (2000) and as producer and showrunner for A&E's Intervention (2007-2013). He also directed CNN's award-winning The Sixties (2014).
