Digital Currency: Where are we now, and what's next?

Money is undergoing a near-radical evolution, driven by a tense dynamic between decentralized crypto and state-backed innovations. Different types of digital currencies, whether payment tokens or meme coins, are becoming more prominent as the world continues to modernize sovereign cash. Over a hundred nations are actively considering Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs). Despite the ongoing tariffs and global tensions, the US dollar still dominates the currency - for now.

Looking ahead, the next frontier will be defined by programmable money that controls global finance, widespread public CBDC rollouts like the digital Euro, and intense regulatory crackdowns. Ultimately, the future of digital currency hinges on a delicate balance between mainstream scalability and critical concerns over financial surveillance, privacy, and security.
