This four day event includes curated panels, presentations and workshops and evening performances on the topic of improvisation. Whether you are new to and curious about improv, or a veteran, you are welcome to be part of this fun, inspiring and growth oriented event!
The Global Improvisation Initiative (GII) was launched to ignite a worldwide exploration of the art and impact of improvisation - deeply and collectively. Rooted in a profound appreciation for the rich history and diversity of the field, the GII seeks to unlock the infinite possibilities that lie ahead.
The GII Symposium 2026 will continue and deepen the explorations begun at previous symposiums (2017 in Southern California, 2019 in London, online in 2021, and exploration in 2023) with a specific focus on the central theme “Activate the Possible.”
In this moment of global conflict and uncertainty, the GII Symposium 2026 aims to serve as a vibrant intellectual and artistic hub for sharing, generating, and documenting new knowledge about improvisational theatre practices across the performing arts and beyond.
