About this Event
Global Filipino History & Legacy (GFHL) is an annual cultural and educational gathering dedicated to celebrating, preserving, and amplifying Filipino history and global impact. Grounded in the belief that Filipino history is global history, GFHL brings together Filipinos and allies across generations and communities to honor a shared legacy of resilience, creativity, and cultural power. Through storytelling, workshops, and community partnerships, the event uplifts overlooked voices, strengthens cultural identity, and creates space for connection, reflection, and collective pride. Launching in Louisiana—particularly New Orleans, the site of the earliest Filipino settlement in North America—GFHL recognizes the region’s deep historical ties to the Filipino diaspora and its shared narratives of colonization, resistance, and community-building. More than a celebration, GFHL is a platform for visibility, solidarity, and action, rooted in values of respect, truth, kapwa, bayanihan, and the belief that the people themselves are the greatest resource.
We've Got It All!
11:00 AM – 1:15 PM → Literary/ Arts Programming
Interested in our history? Literature? Art? Come on by and listen to some authors, artists, and historians who love sharing their passions, histories, and creative outlooks on this globally unified stage. Listen, chat, and share all of the positive chismis with full hearts, minds, and souls.
1:15 – 2:45 PM → Filipino Party Time!
Check out the local vendors, Filipino vendors, our French Market friends, and enjoy all of the gustatory and artistic pleasures we have to offer! Bring your water because it is karaoke time! Check out the crafts activities as well as storytelling stations. Enjoy the exhibits and catch up with the Titos, Titas, Ates, and Kuyas that have stories to tell! Meet everyone and get acquainted. Unfortunately, we won’t have guest rooms for your children to go hide in until two in the morning.
2:45 – 4:45 PM → Performance Program
Stay for the performances! One of them will be the Parangal Dance Company, a “Filipino Folk Dance Group based in the San Francisco Bay Area that Aspires to Inspire,” and they are excited to have you there to watch them share the cultural dances we grew up around.
4:45 – 6:00 PM → Farewell Reception
A long-winded goodbye that emulates how our parties end: with love. Support our local sponsors, enjoy another performance from Grammy Award Winner AJ Haynes and a special guest, and end the day with a spiritual, close embrace that lasts until we meet again.
