⫸ MUSIC

A giant of New York City club culture during the 1980s, John “Jellybean” Benitez was born to a Puerto Rican mother in the South Bronx. Gravitating toward music at a young age, he started frequenting disco clubs in the mid ‘70s and quickly became an established DJ in the scene.

Although he would go on to play at a variety of storied nightspots, including Studio 54, Paradise Garage and Electric Circus, Benitez truly made his mark with a residency at the Fun House in Manhattan, which he held from 1981 to 1984. During those years, his production and remix career also took off, as he reworked seminal tracks from Rockers Revenge, Jimmy Spicer and Afrika Bambaataa; two of his remixes from 1983’s Flashdance soundtrack also became sizeable hits. Around the same time, he was enlisted by Madonna to contribute to her debut album, producing “Holiday” (her first hit) and remixing several other tracks.

He would later produce and remix countless other acts throughout the decade, including Whitney Houston, Hall & Oates, Sheena Easton, Talking Heads, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, The Pointer Sisters, Debbie Harry, Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney, to name just a few. Benitez also created music of his own, scoring hits with tracks like “Sidewalk Talk” (a song co-written by Madonna) and his cover of Babe Ruth’s “The Mexican” before releasing his debut album, Just Visiting This Planet, in 1987.

He remains active on the club scene today, and is largely regarded as one of the key figures who shepherded New York City nightlife out of the disco era, not to mention a pioneer of the freestyle genre.

Joshua Lang is a multipurpose artist who channels his inner world through design & music - An all around tastemaker for what’s current and what’s to come. He started his entrepreneurship journey in 2015 with the launch of his first company, BWC Garments / BWC Sounds: a Philly-based, world distributed life-style brand & music label. His clear-cut vision for community & culture has led him to lead various important roles including his most recent: W Hotel Philadelphia’s Music Director. He has managed to successfully cross pollinate audiences that all merge under musical unity and tasteful fashion.

Joshua will be holding down the Onyx Room all night long.

Detroit-based DJ / producer, responsible for some of the best club-nights the city has to offer. Ladymonix taps into deep, stripped-down, classic-house elements to create raw dancefloor magic.

boyyyish blends his unique ethnic background into adiverse sound journey; his sets transcend genre boundaries in his sonic exploration and expertise behind the decks, and his successive sets for Christina Visca and Susanne Bartsch has helped establish him among NYC nightlife legends and up-and-coming acts.

He has supported the likes of Danny Krivit, Todd Edwards, Eli Escobar, Rich Medina, Dimitri from Paris, Tedd Patterson, Hex Hector, JD Samson, Lauren Flax, Kim Anh, Dana Montana, and SG Lewis. He’s produced Club Boyyyish, a techno party spotlighting BIPOC and LGBTQ+ DJs, in an effort to amplify marginalized voices in nightlife. His collective, Love Prism, with Ty Sunderland has been a queer dance staple for the past 5 years throwing some of NY’s biggest Pride events at 3 Dollar Bill and Webster Hall. His weekly radio show “Breakfast with boyyyish” delves into deep cut 80s and 90s electronic music, exploring the origins of a variety of dance music genres across the world.
