Mountain Light UU Church is delighted to host GLENDA BAILEY-MERSHON as the featured speaker during the Sunday service on April 7.
Modern renaissance woman - author, poet, workshop leader, activist - Glenda's talk will focus on the impact her Romani (Gypsy) heritage has had on her and what it means to be Romani in our part of the world.

GLENDA BAILEY-MERSHON grew up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains, among a textile-mill working and farming family of mixed Romani, Cherokee, Catawba, Scottish, Welsh, and English heritage.
Glenda lived for years in Chicago and Florida, and now has a home again in the Carolinas. Her work has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, including most recently Wagtail: The Roma Women’s Poetry Anthology. She is also the author of Eve’s Garden, a novel about three generations of Romani women.
Her previous poetry publications include the chapbooks sa-co-ni-ge/blue smoke: Poems from the Southern Appalachians; and Bird Talk. She also edited four anthologies by women writers under the auspices of Jane’s Stories Press Foundation, which she co-founded.
Her most recent publication in 2023 is a poetry collection Weaver's Knot: Poems.
Glenda has a B.A. and M.S. in Anthropology which informs her work, as does her multicultural background and her belief in simply having fun,
