About this Event

GLEAM: NOCTURNAL IMPRESSIONS FROM LONDON TO AMSTERDAM (2022)

‘There is freedom in entering a space without knowing what will happen, who you'll meet, what you'll see: at night, there is room for those who aren't accepted during the day.’

In her new audio-visual exhibition, Félice Knol explores London and Amsterdam's nightlife in its rawness and playfulness; darkness and light. As a follow-up to 'BLISS: A CELEBRATION OF YOUTH CULTURE IN THE CAPITAL' (2021), Félice Knol transports one place to another through video, photography and sound: connecting London’s energetic, ever changing nightlife to Amsterdam’s club culture. She explores interactions between the two capitals’ atmospheres, energy and people. Is it possible to recreate a sense of belonging and community: a feeling of freedom?

The exhibition opens Thursday, June 23rd, with a club night in the epic space of Garage Noord. Neo-soul songstress NATANYA, born and raised in North-West London, will kick off the evening with a musical performance, followed by South-East London born and bred musician OMELET. Sounds are provided by Amsterdam born, and Berlin based DJ MENKE FELIX.

The exhibition includes audiovisual artworks by London-based artists Aziza Muhamed, Cecily Loveys Jervoise, Claire Zakiewicz, Clara Frain-Atallah, Cleopatra Thompson, Daniela Maria Geraci, Deepanshu Sharma, Germane Marvel, Grace, Holly Jones, Keri-Luke Campbell, Mika Kailes, Murphy Johnson, Myles Mansfield, Nimco Kulmiye Hussein, Othy Jasper, Sebastian Mortimer, Selina Pirinccioglu and Skye Evelyn Matthew.

Human interaction and social behaviour are recurring themes in Félice Knol's work. She explores the potential of art as a gateway to empathy and mutual understanding: a border-transcending language and a form of common ground. Her background in Sociology and Art History is the foundation of her research- and theory based projects.
