About this Event
Please note: this event will be held in person.
The Glasgow Housing Struggle Archive is a new project to document and learn from our city’s rich history of housing movements and tenant struggles. In this workshop, we will look at the legacies of working-class print media and political education in Glasgow between 1970 and 1990.
From journalism to publishing to satire, through poetry and activism, communities fought back against alienation, unemployment and poor housing in ways that are still fresh and surprising today. We will create a series of zines for the GHSA and GZL by collaging archival material with new writing.
By drawing on the forgotten radical culture of the city’s schemes, we can assert an alternative vision to the Glasgow of luxury hotels, student accommodation and private development, and continue to build the archive today.
About the facilitators:
Kate Wilson is a researcher and historian whose work draws on oral history and archival research to explore histories of culture, class and grassroots education in Glasgow.
Joey Simons is a writer and artist also looking at histories of class and culture in the city. Both are members of the Glasgow Housing Struggle Archive.
