Agenda

🕑: 06:15 PM - 06:40 PM
Key learning from road safety data to reduce cycling casualties.
Host: Christopher Johnson - Cycling Scotland

Info: Chris will present the results of some detailed analysis of fatal and serious collisions involving people cycling in Scotland. The results will cover contributory factors and causation for the collisions, providing practical insight into how and where incidents happen. Aligned with this, Chris will share some of the essential skills of cycling as well as hints and tips for keeping you safe out there on the roads.

🕑: 06:40 PM - 07:05 PM
Cycling Legalities, Road Safety Audits and Dashcam footage.
Host: Stewart Sinclair - Police Scotland

Info: Stewart will take a look at the key things that cyclists need to be aware of to be legal whilst riding on the road. Bike set up: Lights/Reflectors/Bells. Latest Highway Code rules. He will also talk about the Road Safety Audit process he gets involved in with the Local Authority and discuss examples. Finally, he'll look at dashcams, evidence of poor road behaviour and Police Scotland's new DESC system.

🕑: 07:05 PM - 07:30 PM

Host: Roz Galloway - Cycle Law Scotland

She will talk about the many different types of cycling collisions which occur on Scotland's roads by using real case studies. Lots of video clips will bring her presentation to life. Most importantly, if you are involved in a road traffic collision on your bicycle, Roz will explain to you how Cycle Law Scotland can help you.

🕑: 07:30 PM - 07:50 PM
Break and refreshments
🕑: 07:50 PM - 08:15 PM
'My Ride. Our Right’ campaign.’
Host: Scott Runciman - Cycling UK Scotland

Info: Cycling UK believe cycling should feel liberating, not intimidating. But sadly, that’s not the case for everyone. Women make half as many trips by bike as men, and are more likely to be put off cycling by a fear of busy traffic. Women shouldn’t feel forced to choose between a busy road and a dark isolated path. There should be a route that feels safe and welcoming. This isn’t just about transport - it’s about equality, opportunity and giving more people the freedom to ride. Because when we make cycling safer for women, we make it safer for everyone.

🕑: 08:15 PM - 08:40 PM
Cycling infrastructure planning and design.
Host: Eric Hill - SWECO UK

Info: Eric will bring perspective from transport planning and infrastructure design whilst Malcolm will bring a local authority viewpoint on cycling infrastructure and policy.

🕑: 08:40 PM - 09:00 PM
Panel Q&A and Prize Draw.
