Jazz@Park Lane - The newest and coolest jazz venue in Göteborg! Right at the cultural ground zero at Götaplatsen beside the city theater, museum, concert hall et c on Kungsportsavenyn 38. The famous night club "Park Lane" in collaboration with Göteborg Jazz Orchestra and Wauxhall Jazz sets a new standard for jazz in Göteborg.SEASON PREMIERE!
Very fittingly we start of this extraordinary season the a celebration of one of Sweden's biggest contributors to the big band jazz scene - Harry Arnold and his "Radiobandet" ....we will have several reasons to return to this theme during this very exciting autumn for Göteborg Jazz Orchestra!

HARRY ARNOLD – the legendary big band leader from Helsingborg who brought Swedish big band jazz to the highest international level and fame! As founder & leader of Radiobandet between 1956-1965 with the cream of Swedish jazz musicians and with "The American Songbook" as a role model, the band was regularly played on Swedish radio and was very popular and of the highest quality. It was at a turning point when jazz went more from a dance to a concert function. Swedish jazz was already well regarded and in connection with a launch of Radiobandet under the name "The mystery band" on the radio in the USA, it was often mistaken for bands such as Count Basie’s and Woody Herman’s. It was in this context that greats like Quincy Jones got in touch with the Swedish jazz scene and then worked diligently with Harry and the band with arrangements that were a great inspiration for, among others, Bengt-Arne Wallin, Georg Riedel, Jan Johansson and others. The radio band is still considered Sweden's all-time best and the impact on Swedish jazz, directly and indirectly, has been massive.
Eventually the perhaps even more legendary Radiojazzgruppen was born from this fertile ground

GÖTEBORG JAZZ ORCHESTRA is one of the most exciting movements in Swedish jazz. The big band has made a rocket career and in a short time established on the highest level. In their love to music they always look for new expressions and they attract collaborations with the best musicians - domestic and abroad. They often reach over the genre barriers with new formats. The first Monday every month Göteborg Jazz Orchestra performs under the motto "Jazz is fun!" GJO promotes jazz music in Göteborg, always plays great music, encouraging young talents and presents interesting guests and themes!
