Ever wondered how to make chai that tastes just as good as your favorite tea stall or grandmother's kitchen? Join us for a fun, hands-on demo where you'll learn the secrets to brewing rich, aromatic chai from scratch.
In this class, you'll discover:
- How to select and blend whole spices (cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and more) for maximum flavor
- The right tea-to-water-to-milk ratio for that perfect balance
- Tips for adjusting sweetness, spice, and strength to your taste
Whether you're a chai lover looking to recreate café-quality cups at home or a curious beginner, you'll leave with the skills (and recipe!) to make chai anytime, anywhere.
KAMA DC is collaborating with Tapori, an award-winning South Asian street food restaurant located in Washington, D.C.‘s H Street Corridor. Created by the team behind Daru and led by Chef Suresh Sundas,
Tapori draws inspiration from the vibrant street food traditions of India and Nepal. Since opening, the restaurant has earned national recognition, including being named one of Eater’s Best New Restaurants in America and Chef Suresh being recognized as a James Beard Finalist for best chef Mid Atlantic With an inventive beverage program, warm hospitality, and a menu rooted in regional traditions, Tapori offers a fresh, contemporary perspective on South Asian cuisine.
The class will be led by Chef Suresh Sundas’ (James Beard Foundation Finalist: Best Chef Mid-Atlantic 2026, RAMMY Rising Culinary star of the year 2025 winner, Rammy 2022 Best new restaurant, Food & Wine Magazine 2024 Global Tastemaker), whose cooking journey began in his mom’s home kitchen in the rural Pathari village of the Morang district of his native Nepal. He grew up watching her prepare traditional dishes with much love and care called Raksi - which is ‘local Daru’ at home, igniting his passion for cooking.
