These classes will be a little different - more intense, more advanced concepts, more individual attention.
Anyone may register for Wednesday’s class.
The workshops Thursday through Sunday are COUPLES ONLY.
Schedule of Events
ALL CLASSES WILL BE HELD AT THE LONG ROOM - 1111 CENTRAL AVENUE, SUITE 230 CHARLOTTE, NC, 28205.
CLASS 1 - Wednesday, September 16, 2026 - Tango Wednesday Takeover
Class Time: 7 PM - 8:30 PM
Topic: Tango’s Different Embraces: A Closer Look
Level: All Levels - No partner required!
The usual Tango Wednesday practica will follow the class and feature a special performance with Giselle & Dominic at 9:45 PM!
CLASS 2 - Thursday, September 17, 2026
Class Time: 6:45 - 8:45 PM
Topic: Giros — Double-Time with Contraplaneos
Level: Intermediate - COUPLES ONLY
Description: The Giro is a challenging move that all beginning dancers must take time to learn well, but really it is meant to be a platform for even more exciting footwork! Giselle and Dominic will show you the artistic possibilities of one of tango’s most dynamic steps!
CLASS 3 - Friday, September 18, 2026
Class Time: 6:45 - 8:45 PM
Topic: Boleos — Contra vs. In Favor
Level: Intermediate / Advanced
Description: Matthew had been dancing for ten years before he learned the difference between a “contra” boleo and an “in favor” boleo. Many dancers go for years thinking there is only one kind of boleo, but in fact, there are many! In this class, you will learn to lead and follow boleos from two of the very best in the boleo business!
CLASS 4 - Saturday, September 19, 2026
Class Time: 12 - 3:30 PM
Topic: Sacadas — Combinations for Leaders & Followers
Level: Intermediate / Advanced
Description: There are hundreds of possible sacada combinations in Argentine tango! We will explore some of the coolest and most exciting ones in this class! For this class, it is best if both you and your partner have already seen sacadas in class. You don’t have to be a wizard at them. That is what this class is for! But a basic familiarity with sacadas will be helpful.
CLASS 5 - Sunday, September 20, 2026
Class Time: 12 - 3:30 PM
Topic: Colgadas — Comparative Techniques for Fluidity & Balance
Level: Advanced
Guided Practica - 45 minutes
Description: Colgadas are off-axis moves where the dancers shift their weight away from each other, creating a single axis of balance between them. They can spin; they can be still. They can be linear; they can be circular. They are not easy to learn, but, with the right instruction and feedback from your teacher and dance partner, they are absolutely attainable. And they are SO fun to do! This is your chance to dive into the waters of colgadas and learn to swim!
IMPORTANT NOTE:
These classes are meant to be challenging. Expect to work hard, and choose your partner wisely for the couples-only classes, as we will not be rotating. If you are not sure whether these workshops are right for you, consult with Matthew. (You do not need to register with the same partner for all classes.)
Dancers who meet the following criteria are encouraged to register:
You have at least two years of consistent tango dance experience, including attending class. OR…
You have regularly attended the Tango Wednesday group classes for at least one year. AND…
You are familiar with the following skills and steps:
Dancing in both open and close embrace
Leading and following ochos, the cross, and the molinete
Dancing in moderately crowded spaces (nothing too crazy)
If you meet the above criteria, do not be afraid to challenge yourself. You do not need to master every step that will be taught. There is much benefit in pushing your edge. That said, these classes are for dancers who have some experience, are comfortable with the fundamentals, and are ready to dive more deeply into tango technique. You will be a different dancer after this weekend!
PRICES - ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED FOR THURSDAY - SUNDAY CLASSES.
To register, email Matthew, and he will send you a payment link. If you wish to sign up for a private lesson, mention that in your email as well. D & G will be generally free Thursday - Sunday afternoons, and possibly Saturday morning.
