Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!

Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events which are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together and take over the mats! Women and girls of all ages and skill levels are welcome to attend from any academy affiliation. We welcome beginners and don't require any experience. Our events are designed for 100% participation. However, we do allow parents or chaperone to accompany underage participants as spectators.

Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.

You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.  

GIG Texas-Austin Guest instructor: Cameron Bryant & Courtney Fuqua

Cameron Willow Bryant is a brown belt under Xande Ribeiro of Six Blades Jiu Jitsu Austin. Originally from Virginia Beach, VA, she started training in 2011 at Virginia Beach Jiu Jitsu under Scott Oates and trained there through her purple belt. She moved to Toledo, OH and earned her brown belt from Chris Blanket at Toledo Jiu Jitsu.

Cameron started competing in 2012, began refereeing as a purple belt, and since moving to Austin to train with Xande, won gold in her master 1 heavyweight brown belt division, and won bronze in the open class in 2021 at the No-Gi World championship.

When it comes to teaching jiu jitsu there is nothing Cameron is more passionate about than fundamentals! She began assisting kids classes as a white belt, and has continued to teach all levels of classes including kids, adult fundamentals, and adult advanced classes. Cameron believes in teaching concepts and principles to set up students for success with a strong foundation and understanding to build their skills on. In addition to coed classes, Cameron is very invested in supporting and growing women’s jiu jitsu through women’s only classes. Her first jiu jitsu class was women’s only.

Courtney Fuqua is a brown belt in Austin, TX. Originally from Houston, TX she moved to Austin in 2000, started training in 2010, and built her jiu jitsu foundation at Relson Gracie Austin under Christina Thomas. Courtney is now training at Six Blades Austin under Xande Ribeiro. She started training for physical fitness and self-defense and fell in love with the dynamics of the sport. As a hobbyist she really enjoys the community of jiu jitsu that has developed in Austin and the camaraderie of the local gyms. Off the mat Courtney is a full time pastry chef, wife, step-mom to 4 kids, and dog-mom to two fur babies.

COST: $20 Min Donation. All Donations Welcome.

We are closely monitoring the COVID19 ordinances and regulations. This event maybe subject to rescheduling or policy changes at anytime. If you are feeling sick or have any symptoms please stay home. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER ONLINE. ONLINE REGISTRATION WILL BE CLOSED 8/14/22 at 11:30 AM OR ONCE WE REACH CAPACITY. WALK INS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ONCE CAPACITY IS REACHED. 

Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and all sales are final.  Doors open at 11:30 am. Please arrive early to change and get ready or come ready so we may start on time at 12:00 pm.
