Maka Paracuelles is a brown belt at Island Jiu-jitsu Academy in Honolulu. She has been training for 11 years and loves every moment of it. Jiu-jitsu ties in very closely with her yoga journey. She has practiced yoga for 20 years and taught for 7. She started teaching yoga to share the practice with her jiu-jitsu teammates, but it flourished into so much more. The people she has come to know and love thru jiu-jitsu are some of her most treasured relationships. She will be forever grateful for the ways they have blessed her life. Jiu-jitsu is a tough journey that’s filled with peaks and valleys, but it is always worth the effort!
Teshya Alo is a Christian athlete from the beautiful islands of Hawaii. She has competed in various martial arts disciplines, including judo, wrestling, and jiu-jitsu. She has had amazing experiences with judo, earning her black belt and achieving success at the national and international levels. Her wrestling journey includes proud accomplishments such as being a multi-national champion and world champion.
Recently, she has been diving into the world of jiu-jitsu. It’s been an incredible learning experience. She is grateful for the opportunities she has had. She earned a world title at blue belt and a bronze at purple belt. She also hold two Title Belts for F2W and Submission Battlegrounds.
Ocean Hay is a brown belt under Island Jiujitsu Academy and has been training for 9 years. Her jiujitsu journey began at 20 years old. She had no idea what jiujitsu even was at the time and was blown away at how different it was than anything she had done before. She grew so passionate about it that she began to coach kids classes, teach women’s classes, and focus on street-self defense. Jiujitsu has been one of the biggest blessings in her life that she hopes to continue as she ages. She loves being able to empower women and show them how powerful and resilient they can be.
Jonna Campbell, is a dedicated practitioner of jiu-jitsu since 2016, embarked on this journey alongside her husband and two children. What began as a family activity soon transformed into a profound passion and vocation.
With a nurturing spirit and a firm belief in the transformative power of martial arts, Jonna found herself naturally drawn to coaching. She began by coaching kids’ classes, instilling discipline, confidence, and respect in her young students while honing their jiu-jitsu skills.
Now, Jonna’s focus has shifted towards empowering women through jiu-jitsu. As a women’s only coach, she creates a supportive and empowering environment where women can learn and grow both physically and mentally.
