About this Event

Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!

Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.

Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.

You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.

GIG California-San Francisco Guest instructors: Jane Janero & Angelica “Gel” Teaupa

Jane Janero began jiu jitsu in 2004 under her husband J. Janero, and earned her black belt in 2015 from J. and Xande Ribeiro. She is the head Jiu Jitsu coach for the women and teen girls at Evolve Training Center. She has had the privilege and opportunity to learn and train with some of the best women in jiu jitsu, including Gezary Matuda, Mackenzie Dern, Michelle Nicolini and Luiza Monteiro, as well as Rafa and Gui Mendes. Jane has won gold in competitions such as the Pan Americans and Master Worlds Championships at Purple, Brown and Black belt. She and her husband started teaching self defense through free community workshops in 2015.

Jane’s faith has been the driving force in fulfilling her purpose to inspire others to believe in themselves and be the best they can be.

Angelica "Gel" Teaupa is a brown belt under Jane and J. Janero and assistant coach for Evolve Training Center’s teen girls team. She has been married for 22 years and is a mom to 3 children, ages 17 and up. Her husband and children have all been an integral part of her jiujitsu journey. Gel’s favorite techniques are open guard sweeps and favorite submissions are triangle and bow and arrow chokes. Outside of jiujitsu, Gel is a program manager at a nearby university and a leader in her church’s children’s auxiliary.
