Girls in Gis Arizona – Phoenix Event

Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!

Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.

Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.

You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.

GIG Arizona – Phoenix Guest instructors: Sarah Black and Felicia Oh

Felicia Oh is a 4TH Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Jean Jacques Machado and the 6th of The Women’s Dirty Dozen of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (6thFemale Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt in the United States). Since her start she has dominated many national competitions and was awarded her black belt by Jean Jacques Machado after only 4.5 She is a 5x IBJJF Master World Champion, 4x IBJJF Master No-Gi World Champion, 3x FILA World Champion, ADCC Finalist/Silver Medalist, ADCC North American Trials Champion
IBJJF Pan Gi and No-Gi Champion and a 3x USA World Team Member.
In 2007, Felicia became the first woman to win both the Pan American Jiu Jitsu Black Belt Gi and No-Gi divisions.a She has represented the United States at the FILA Grappling World Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and is a three-time gold medalist.
In addition to being an avid competitor Felicia has extensive teaching experience in BJJ, grappling, wrestling. She was also the first female member of the BJMUTA MMA Fight Team as well as an assistant coach. In February of 2009, Felicia presented the first week-long Women’s Grappling Camp to help teach, train and mentor women coming up in the sport as well as building the community. The campers included women from every part of the country and Canada.

In 2015 Felicia became an Athletic Inspector for professional combat sports (MMA, boxing and kickboxing) for the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). In 2022 she began her career with CAMO (California Amateur MMA) and not long after became a professional MMA Judge for CSAC (California State Athletic Commission) with the highlights so far being UFC 298 and UFC 311. Felicia continues to train jiu-jitsu regularly as well as assisting with Herb Dean’s Inspector, Judging and Refereeing course.

Sarah Black is a decorated Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt competitor with 19 years of martial arts experience. She is a third-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Gustavo Dantas (André Pederneiras), earning her black belt in 2015. She holds the Judo rank of Nidan (second-degree black belt), awarded by Olympic Silver Medalist Jason Morris in 2010. In 2016, she ranked 7th in the world for IBJJF black belt adult female competitors. She is a six-time IBJJF Adult and Master’s World Champion and a three-time IBJJF Nationals Gi and No-Gi Champion. Sarah has been coaching kids and adults for over 12 years and is currently the owner and head coach of South Mountain Jiu-Jitsu in Laveen Arizona.

ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER ONLINE. ONLINE REGISTRATION WILL BE CLOSED 3/15/25 at 2:00 PM OR ONCE WE REACH CAPACITY. WALK-INS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ONCE CAPACITY IS REACHED.

Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and all sales are final. Doors open at 12:30 pm. Please arrive early to change and get ready or come ready so we may start on time at 1:00 pm.
