About this Event
Girls Got Moves is a community-centered event dedicated to empowering girls through movement, leadership, and connection. The event will take place on October 11 at The Corner at NC State and will bring together local organizations, businesses, and community leaders to create an inspiring day of learning, wellness, and fun.
Hosted by Girls Geared for Greatness, Girls Got Moves celebrates the power of community to move girlhood in a better direction.
From our Storytelling Segments on stage to Activation Stations (literacy, service, goal setting and more) to Demo Sessions (self-defense, yoga, dance) to prompted Open Mic Moments for attendees, the day will be centered the many ways we can each discover our inner greatness and support each other along our unique journeys.

Info: Chasta Hamilton, Founder & President of Girls Geared For Greatness, leads the welcome and kick-off to the first ever Girls Got Moves, featuring a spirited performance from the Be More Performance Ensembles at Stage Door Dance Productions.

Storytelling Segment: Crissy Fishbane
Host: Crissy Fishbane
Info: THE TALK: Growing up in a trailer park, Crissy learned from a young age what it meant to be seen as less than, and began editing pieces of herself in an effort to fit in. She will explore the subtle ways girls learn who they're "supposed" to be and invite them to grow, change, and make their moves without leaving pieces of themselves behind. THE STORYTELLER: Crissy Fishbane is a keynote speaker, writer, and community builder who helps people build more meaningful lives through worthiness, courage, curiosity, and belonging. A former psychology teacher and co-founder of HER Health Collective, Crissy was named a Top 3 finalist out of more than 4,000 applicants worldwide in the 2026 Next Top Speaker competition and now brings her stories and ideas to audiences through keynotes, workshops, and conversations about what it means to live fully and authentically.

Self-Defense Demonstration: Peck's Tae Kwon Do
Host: Julee Peck of Peck's Tae Kwon Do
Info: Julee Peck is a ninth-degree Black Belt with more than 45 years of experience in Taekwondo. She is the owner of Peck’s Taekwondo America. This family-focused martial arts organization has served the Triangle community for more than 30 years, with locations in Raleigh and Morrisville, North Carolina.
Throughout her career, Julee has helped students of all ages develop confidence, discipline, leadership skills, and physical fitness through martial arts training. She is especially passionate about creating a positive and encouraging environment where every student can overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

Storytelling Segment: Kyla Griffin
Host: Kyla Griffin
Info: Talk Bio: The What Do You Believe? Project is a 7-part docu-series all about religion. It was created to encourage all of us to have more conversations about religion because what we believe really matters. In this talk, Kyla will share the story of how this project came to be and what it taught her about curiosity, human connection, and what it means to discover your fullest potential.
Bio: Kyla Griffin is a 4th year student at North Carolina State University studying Business IT. She is also a member of the Park Scholarships program. She is a changemaker who demonstrates her passion for community service and empowerment through her leadership on the Park Philanthropy Council, her roles supporting the African American Cultural Center Library and NC State’s Office of Undergraduate Research, and tenure as a Service Raleigh committee member. She is also a reader and a storyteller who is deeply passionate about religion and what it can teach us about humanity.

Move With Confidence: A 20-Minute Yoga Flow for Every Body

Info: In just 20 minutes, we will move together in a way that has nothing to do with how you look and everything to do with how you feel. No experience needed. No perfect poses required. Just you, your breath, and a simple flow designed to help you feel strong, grounded, and completely at home in your own body.
The mat is one of the few places where there is no competition, no comparison, and no wrong answer. Just you, showing up for yourself.
Come as you are. Leave feeling like the most confident version of yourself.
All ages and experience levels welcome. Please bring a yoga mat or towel for this segment.

Storytelling Segment: Jennifer King
Host: Jennifer King
Info: Jennifer King built a 12-year college basketball coaching career that included a 2017 National Championship and National Coach of the Year honors before transitioning to football full time. She went on to coach with the Carolina Panthers, Arizona Hotshots, Dartmouth, and Washington Commanders, where she became the first Black woman assistant coach in NFL history. King continued breaking barriers by leading a position group at the 2022 East-West Shrine Bowl and the National Team running backs at the 2023 Senior Bowl. She later joined the Chicago Bears and now serves as an Offensive Analyst and Head Women’s Flag Football Coach at North Carolina Central University. A seven-time All-American and two-time national champion as a player, King also became a partner in Chicago’s Level Sporting Club in 2026.
