About this Event
Welcome to the Girls Build Summer Academy - 2026! Get ready for an exciting week filled with hands-on activities, workshops, and mentorship opportunities. Join us starting on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 8:00 AM at Bldg. 187, California Polytechnic State University. We'll meet daily from 8:00 to 4:30 pm from June 22-26, 2026.
Get ready for an exhilarating week filled with hands-on construction adventures! Each day, you'll team up with expert craftspeople and industry professionals, dive into exciting discussions about career paths and leadership in the construction world, and explore cutting-edge technologies and innovations that are shaping the industry.
You'll get your hands on a variety of materials and tools, learning to master them like a pro. By the time the week wraps up, you'll be confidently wielding hand and power tools and working with common building materials like a true craftsperson!
And that's not all! As you tackle smaller projects to take home, you'll also have the amazing opportunity to build and decorate a playhouse for a child in the community. It's a chance to unleash your creativity and give back all in one incredible week! Don’t miss out on this unforgettable experience!
Who Can Attend?
This week-long academy is for any young woman who will be entering 9th through 12th grade in August 2026. It is also available for any student who just graduated from 12th grade in June 2026.
No previous construction knowledge is required for this camp.
Space is limited to 20 campers, so enroll today to secure your spot. All campers (or their guardians if under 18) must complete additional release forms by Saturday, June 1, to stay enrolled in the camp. Release forms will be emailed separately.
Types of Activities
Each day you'll build with expert craftspeople, discuss career and leadership opportunities, and learn about construction technology and innovations. You'll learn to build with different materials and tools daily. By the end of the week, you'll know how to confidently and safely use hand and power tools and work with common building materials.
Throughout the week, you'll work on some small projects to take home. Addtionally, you'll build and decorate a small playhouse for a child in the community.
Tools and Personal Protective Equipment
All tools and personal protective equipment (hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, etc.) will be provided to each student for use during the camp. All students will have received a small set of starter tools and PPE to keep and use going forward.
If you've attended the academy before, please indicate that on the form and we'll check in with you to make sure you still have the tools you need.
Additional Forms
Each camper will need to complete additional release forms before June 1 to stay enrolled in the week-long academy. Forms will be emailed out to the legal guardian identified on the form or, if the camper is over 18, to the camper directly.
Food and Drinks
We will start each day at 8:00 a.m. and end each day at 4:30. We will provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks throughout the day so we stay energized. I do encourage each camper to bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated.
What to Wear
We will be building each day throughout the week, and, if I’m doing my job right, we will probably be getting dirty. Additionally, we will be working with power tools, so we want to make sure there is no loose clothing that can get caught on tools. Please be sure that students come prepared to get dirty, are wearing long pants, and that clothing isn’t too loose. Additionally, make sure students are wearing close-toed, hard-soled shoes each day, and long hair will need to be tied back.
