TEAM SHEET REQUIRED
Rules:
- Team of 8 with 4 on the court at one time
- Each game will start with a ‘jump ball’.
- Travelling; players are not allowed to move whilst holding the ball. Players must dribble/bounce the ball to move with it.
- Double Dribble; players may not bounce the ball with 2 hands simultaneously. Once a player has stopped dribbling they must either pass or shoot, they are not allowed to begin dribbling again.
- Fouls; Basketball is technically non-contact although some accidental contact will occur and should not be penalised. Defenders cannot take the ball from a player who is holding it in two hands. They are however allowed to intercept passes and knock the ball away from a player who is dribbling.
- After a foul or violation of the rules the team awarded possession will take the ball off the court at the nearest point (sideline or end line) and then pass it back on to restart the game.
- A made basket will be 2 points. A shot which hits the rim (regardless of how many times it hits the rim) but does not go in, will be worth 1 point. It will be treated as a made basket.
- After a basket has been scored the team that has just been scored against will be awarded possession and must pass it in from under their basket.
- ‘Man-to-Man’ defence must be played at all times.
- Substitutions may occur during a stoppage in play at any time.
- Games will be played cross court using regulation height basket size.
- Referees will call fouls and their decision is final.
- There is no limit to team or personal fouls in each game.
- Event organisers will have the final decision on any disputes.
- *Teachers/Coaches please note all rules will be enforced to the best of the referee’s ability and within the spirit of the game. Remember that the main objective of the competition is that the children are active and enjoying themselves!
