Girl Up! Fashion Arts Summer Camp

In this week-long summer camp (the first of two week-long camps) we will explore basic hand-sewing, embroidery, fabric crafting, embellishment and designing upcycled fashions with a focus on using tshirts and tshirt material. This is a great way for your 8-13 year-old girl to have fun and gain experience within a supportive small group environment, and she'll go home with cool finished projects and new skills she can show off!

This camp is led by Laura Mae Noble, founder and teaching artist at LMN Wedge Studio in Wicker Park, along with a teaching assistant.

In addition to upcycled fashion and fabric crafting, we offer healthy snacks each day, and (weather permitting) we will go outside for play, further creative practice (like sketching and tie-dye!), shaking out the sillies - and picnic lunch.

The studio is located at the intersections of Milwaukee, Damen, and North, in Wicker Park, just a block away from the lovely Wicker Park and its playground. The 606 trail is two blocks north, serving as another place to explore outdoors, get some exercise, and maybe sing some camp songs.

We are limiting this camp to 10 kids only, so that each child gets the guidance she needs from Laura and her teaching assistant. We were girls once, and we want to encourage girls -women of the future- to have fun, speak up, and let their knowing grow in a safe and nurturing community environment. We believe in girls' ability to perceive, create, and contribute to their world through creative resourcefulness, and camaraderie with other girls and women.

After the weekend break, this camp will be followed by a second week of camp with the option to attend both weeks.

At the end of the second week, we will have an open house, rummage sale, and fashion show. Clothing donations will also be accepted, and any leftovers will be donated to a local womens' shelter.

LMN Wedge Studio and Gallery is situated in the heart of Wicker Park, on the second floor of the Flatiron Arts Building, at the corners of Milwaukee, Damen, and North Ave. We are close to multiple parks and outdoor areas, and public transit is very convenient to our location.
