📍 Where: The Underline between 31st and 32nd Avenue, specifically Columns 374 N-S and 375 N-S, located a short walk from Boys & Girls Club of Miami at 2805 SW 32nd Ave, Miami, FL 33133.

🎨 About the Work: Steady Sunward, 2026 Gio Swaby (b. 1991 Nassau, Bahamas)
Drawing from the Bahamian national anthem, this commissioned artwork holds the enduring hope of a brighter horizon ahead. Through bold, vibrant design, these murals invoke a spirit of joy and within an energetic cityscape, offer a remarkable moment to pause. The pillars feature silhouetted figures that represent Swaby’s inner circle of sisterhood growing up as a young Black girl in The Bahamas. For viewers, they hold the warmth of familiarity, generating reflections of mothers, sisters, aunts, daughters and friends. These murals are inspired by the vivid colour palettes of both Miami and Nassau, honouring the long-standing connection between the two places. They celebrate the Bahamian roots in Coconut Grove and mirror the warmth and radiance of the local community.
Gio Swaby is a Bahamian artist renowned for her striking textile-based portraits. Swaby’s practice frames personal style as a form of self-authorship, documenting and celebrating the multifaceted aesthetics of contemporary Black womanhood.

• 🚆 If you Take the Metrorail/Walk, to Coconut Grove Station, upon exit you will walk South, onto The Underline pedestrian path and enjoy a scenic 15 min walk. After you cross SW 31st Ave,you will arrive at the event location and art on columns 374 N-S and 375 N-S.
• 🚲 If you Bike, you will use The Underline bike path and enjoy a scenic ride. After you cross SW 31st Ave, you will arrive at the event location and art on columns 374 N-S and 375 N-S.
• 🚗If you Drive, please carpool or use ride share! Use the nearby parking lots located at The Boys & Girls Club of Miami at 2805 SW 32nd Ave, Miami, FL 33133.

🌧 Weather: This event is outdoors. In case of severe weather, check your email for updates. If there is a 50% or greater chance of rain, we’ll make a final decision 2 hours before start time and notify you by email. Thunder or lightning will result in immediate cancellation.
