Carmel Kelly returns to Tyneside to share her knowledge of South Shields man, Gilbert Barrington. He was a key figure in the history of Irish republicanism in the North East of England. Join us to learn more about the head teacher who became a senior IRA officer.
Carmel is a librarian based in Dún Laoghaire. She is also an accomplished storyteller and children’s author. She has published several successful books some in Gaelic for youngsters explaining Irish historical events including the famine. As Barrington lived in Dún Laoghaire and his family are still there, Carmel proved to be the ideal person to research and relate his fascinating story.
