Gichigami Grapple
Join DSSA and DYC for the 2026 Gichigami Grapple, a day of small-boat racing on Lake Superior and Superior Bay. ILCA/Laser and Club 420 sailors of all ages and experience levels are welcome, with racing planned for Saturday, August 22 near Park Point or on Lake Superior, conditions permitting.
Following the races, sailors, families, volunteers, and supporters are invited to the Duluth Yacht Club 13th Street site for awards, recognition, and a social dinner/grillout. Dinner is included with competitor registration.

Event Highlights
- ILCA/Laser and Club 420 racing
- No competitor age restrictions
- Windward-leeward style racing with no maximum number of races
- Racing on Superior Bay or Lake Superior, conditions permitting
- Awards for top finishers
- Post-race DYC social and grillout included with registration
- Open to sailors from throughout the region — US Sailing and class memberships are encouraged, but not required
Registration: $70 per sailor
Twin Ports Youth Sailing Team Members: $40 per sailor
Dinner for family and friends: $15 per person
Additional Information
- Bring your own lunch and plenty of water. There will be no lunch provided and no scheduled break ashore during racing.
- Dinner is included with competitor registration and will be served during the post-race awards/social at the DYC 13th Street site.
- The competitors meeting is mandatory and begins at 9:30 AM Saturday at DSSA.
- Plan to be ready to race at 10:00 AM. Depending on conditions, racing may take place inside Superior Bay or outside on Lake Superior.
- Dress for Lake Superior conditions. Weather and temperatures can change quickly, particularly if racing moves outside the harbor.
- Alcohol and open containers are not permitted on DSSA property or at the neighboring public boat launch.
- Check the official notice board before the event for Sailing Instructions and any updates to the racing schedule or venue.
