About this Event
Join Boroughs of the Dead for the original Dark Christmas Tour of New York City!
This annual holiday tour combines some of our favorite local ghost stories from the East Village with a special seasonal focus on the history of Christmas and its unique connection to New York City.
Delve into the dark side of Christmas folklore and discover its connections to the immigrant communities of the East Village. Uncover the connections between the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam and the way we celebrate Christmas today. Learn how New York City's old "Knickerbocker" elite, including Washington Irving himself, influenced Christmas traditions. Discover why the Victorians loved to tell ghost stories at Christmastide while visiting one of Manhattan's most haunted 19th century houses.
Stops on this tour include:
• St. Mark's Church in the Bowery
• Colonnade Row
• The Public Theatre
• The Merchant's House
… and more!
This tour ends in Washington Square Park.
Tour runs rain or shine and lasts approximately 90 minutes, covering about 1 mile. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
Please note: this tour takes place outdoors and we do not go inside any buildings, so please dress warmly!
