Formed in 1985, from the ashes of iconic luminaries of the ‘post punk’ and ‘goth’ scenes, Skeletal Family and The Sisters
Of Mercy. They had an instant following and spent many weeks, high in the indie charts, with releases on the Karbon
Label and touring with many of their contemporaries, The Cult, The Mission, All About Eve, Wonderstuff, Killing Joke, as
well as appearing at many incredibly events, such as Reading Rock Festival in 1988.
After signing to Chrysalis, for a major album release, with ‘Stop The World’, Ghost Dance appeared on radio sessions for
John Peel, Janice Long, Nicky Campbell and made many Radio and TV appearances throughout the UK, Europe, Canada & the America.
Sadly, Ghost Dance disbanded after touring Germany with The Ramones in 1989.
2021 saw a new line-up, featuring Anne Marie hurst and going from strength to strength with their Youtube videos topping
100,000 plays and well received singles & live shows, including special guests to Fields Of The Nephilim at the sold out
‘Tomorrow’s Ghosts Festival’ at Whitby in 2022 along with shows in Belgium, Sweden and Mexico.
2023 saw Ghost Dance release their long awaited new album ‘The Silent Shout’ to rave reviews, which went straight to
No1 in iTunes ‘Goth Rock’ chart and the CD still remains high in the charts and is an Amazon best seller of the genre.
Salvation are one of the original Leeds-based post-punk/goth bands. Formed in 1983, the original line-up of the band
was Daniel Mass (vocals), Mike Hayes (guitar) and James Elmore (bass). At the time, Daniel Mass was working with The Sisters of Mercy, and lead singer Andrew Eldritch took the band to K.G. Studios in Bridlington to record and produce Salvation’s first single,“Girlsoul”, which came out on the Merciful Release label.
In 1985, Salvation recruited new guitarist, Choque Hosein, and drummer Paul Maher replaced the drum machine. On 16.03.85, the band played their first live gig at Leeds University’s Tartan Bar. 1985 also saw the recording of the “Jessica’s Crime”single, this time with The Mission’s Wayne Hussey in the Producer’s
chair. This was followed in 1986 by another 3-track EP,“Seek”.
In 1987, with the addition of secondguitarist Benoît Farvak and new bassist Richard Miechje, Salvation recorded its first album,“Diamondsare Forever”, which entered the UK Indie Charts in July of that year. In 1988, the band signed anew record deal with alternative label Karbon and released both “Sunshine Superman” (a Donovan cover) and the“All and More” EP which gained BBC Radio 1 airplay.
In 1989, a new line-up toured extensively with bands such as The Mission, New ModelArmy, Red Lorry Yellow Lorryand Pop Will Eat Itself. At the end of the year, Salvation signed to MilesCopeland’s IRS label and released a new single, “Debris”,and a second album, “Sass”.
In 1990, Salvation supported labelmates, The Alarm, on its ‘No Frontiers’ tour. Following the tour,Daniel Mass leftthe band.
In 2007, after a 16 year hiatus, during which Salvation’s first CD compilation,“Hunger Days”,had been released (in
1997), Daniel Mass and Benoit Farvak reconnected after being invited to play Leeds Metropolitan University with The
March Violets.
Since 2012 the band has been touring regularly in the UK, playing its own shows and supporting, amongst others,
Fields of The Nephilim and Skeletal Family. 2014 finally saw the release of the widely bootlegged album, “Clash of Dreams”, most of which had been recorded back in 1984, with Andrew Eldrich again on production duties.
In March 2020, Salvation played 4 shows in France and Belgium, as special guests of The Mission. The last of those
dates was recorded and releasedas Salvation’s first ever Live album,“We Gave You Diamonds…Live at De Casino!”
Post Covid, the band developed a new live sound, incorporating digital drums, and has since played a number of gigs,
supporting the Mission (2022) and Rose of Avalanche (2023). In January 2023, Salvation was also part of the Leeds
Antenna Festival line-up. Two 2023 book/CD packages also feature the band
In September 2022 the band celebrated almost 40 years in the business with a sold-out homecoming gig at the Brudenell, Leeds, featuring members past and present.
In October 2023 Salvation played at the Tomorrow’s Ghosts Festival, Whitby, playing some never-performed live songs from the early years (1983-86).
Tickets on sale 10am 9th August. Full weekend tickets available.
