Ghan Garaje: Monsoon Melodies by Arati Ankalikar Tikekar
Accompanied by Yati Bhagwat (tabla), Abhinay Ravande (harmonium)
The monsoon is richly celebrated in Indian music. Ragas of the Malhar family and semi-classical genres of music like thumri and dadra are inseparably associated with this season. Several allied folk forms like kajri, sawan, jhoola, hindola also express the agony of separation and the ecstasy of union with the beloved during this season.
Having trained under three eminent vocalists—Vasantrao Kulkarni, Kishori Amonkar and Dinkar Kaikini—Arati Ankalikar Tikekar has a unique style which integrates Gwalior, Jaipur-Atrauli and Agra gharanas. Besides live performances and recordings for albums in classical music, her playback singing for Marathi, Konkani and Hindi films has earned her several awards and accolades, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
In this recital, she will present a bouquet of classical and semi-classical compositions to celebrate the lively season.
